Holiday Cottage Entrepreneur launches luxury independent catering business

Founder and former owner of Sykes Cottages, Clive Sykes kicked off 2022 with the launch of a new luxury retreat business called Catch The Breeze Retreats.

The five premium properties currently under the brand are located in Snowdonia National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Northumberland Coast, all areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Clive and the team have also acquired an old mill on the Northumberland coast near Beadnell, close to the sand dunes and surrounded by National Trust land. Located less than 400 meters from the coast, it should be completed in 2023.

“It’s in my blood” is the simple reason Clive set up Catch The Breeze Retreats.

Clive added:

“The vast knowledge and experience gained over the years, combined with my passion for great vacation experiences, has brought me to this point. Many people have always thought that the independent holiday options here in the UK are boring compared to the exotic alternatives abroad, but that couldn’t be further from the truth in my opinion. There’s so much to discover here in the UK, often only hours away from home, and I can’t wait to share some hidden gems and new places with you.

“The big difference with Catch The Breeze Retreats is that we manage every aspect and place an incredibly high value on our customer service. We own the properties within the group so we are able to control the entire journey of the customer experience and ensure a positive stay, which cannot be guaranteed by simply paying through a booking agent.

“As soon as someone calls us, there is a person on the end of the phone or email who will explain the options available, the check-in process, provide guests with recommendations on where to eat, local attractions and family outing options Plus, with the team’s local knowledge, for example, we’re able to recommend restaurants that often require reservations well in advance so guests can plan their stay as they hope so and avoid disappointment.

“We are not a booking agent, we know these properties inside out and appreciate the value of getting all those little details for clients. Each is designed and furnished with respect to its traditional features, but we also add our own touches of luxury like Melin Tregwynt soft furnishings throughout.

One Catch The Breeze Retreats is the impressive 1800s freestanding country estate of Oughtershaw Hall. Situated in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the country house sleeps 16, has its own private heated swimming pool and offers tranquility and natural beauty for the perfect retreat.

Clive continued:

“I have carefully selected each property based on the charm and character it offers, as well as the natural beauty and visitor potential of the area. We have three properties in Northumberland’s coastal fishing village of Craster because it is such a beautiful part of the world. From the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle to quiet coves, to the local kipper smokehouse, considered a favorite of the Royal Family, there really is something for everyone.”

With over 100 years of combined experience in the luxury travel and holiday home industry, the team have relied on their extensive and high standards of customer service and combined this with their passion for providing people with fantastic vacation experiences. From selected soft furnishings, property cleaning and maintenance, photography to emerging technologies and guest requests, the team appreciates it all and is delighted to welcome you.

Clive added:

“Simply put, our properties are the ones you won’t want to leave. It’s about the adventures and memories families and friends can make together at one of our properties, and the fun they get from meeting and visiting nearby local attractions.

Properties range in size from six to 16 people, and each is perfectly suited for families of all ages to come together to celebrate birthdays and milestones, as well as weekend getaways with friends.
