TOWNSHEND – Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital received $ 18,900 from the Vermont Buildings and General Services “Building Communities” grant program to help Grace Cottage upgrade the sidewalk in front of her family health clinic along Highway 35 .
The grant allows Grace Cottage to replace a narrow asphalt sidewalk that needed repair with a safer, more durable concrete sidewalk that meets current ADA accessibility standards. As well as being wider, the new sidewalk also features an attractive retaining wall at the right height to provide seating outside while patients wait for their commute. Recessed lighting built into this wall will provide a safer walking environment early and late in the day.
Evans Construction and Grace Cottage’s maintenance department are completing most of the work and expect to complete the project before winter.
Other funding for this project was provided by a private foundation and an individual donor.
Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital serves approximately 7,500 patients per year, primarily in the towns of Windham County. Among its services, it offers primary care, hospitalization, physical and vocational rehabilitation and emergency medical services 24-7-365.
