Fire crews quickly knock down fire threatening homes on the grass on Toby Lane Monday afternoon in Clarkston | Local

CLARKSTON – On the afternoon of Monday, August 8, 2022, firefighters from Asotin County Fire District No. 1 were called to Toby Lane in Clarkston to a tractor that caught fire and then started a fire. grass near houses, outdoor buildings and a motorhome.

Asotin County crews also called for mutual aid from the Lewiston Fire Department due to the threat to nearby homes. According to a statement from Asotin County Fire District No. 1, three homes were threatened.

Fire crews managed to contain the line of fire before reaching the houses, but the fire reached and damaged a wooden fence near a house. The tractor was also badly damaged.

After the fire, Asotin County Fire Chief Noel Hardin urged homeowners to “please create a defensible space around your property.” Hardin said a wet May and June helped grow a lot of grass that is now extremely dry in the valley.

No injuries were reported in this fire.
