European group moves to chalet vacation company

An independent Wales-based holiday cottage business has been acquired by the Awaze holiday rental and holiday park group.

Quality Cottages and sister brand Quality Unearthed add an additional 671 units to Awaze’s growing UK inventory, with most Quality Cottages properties located within five miles of the Welsh coast.

All newly added accommodations will be marketed to a national and international audience through Awaze’s key brands – Hoseasons, and Novasol.

“We are always excited to add regional businesses like this to Awaze’s portfolio and look forward to building on the strong relationships they already have with the local communities they support,” said Henrik Kjellberg, Director General of Awaze.

“At Quality Cottages we now have a significantly larger presence along the ever popular Welsh coastline, while the acquisition of Quality Unearthed means we can continue to surprise and delight those of our three million customers a year who are looking for something a little different from their stay. “

Quality Cottages was founded and managed by Leonard and Margaret Rees. The duo started by converting farm buildings into holiday homes before expanding the business across Wales as an agency for other holiday home owners.

Quality Unearthed specializes in unusual glamping accommodation in the UK, such as tree houses, eco pods, wagons and yurts, and was founded by couple’s son Tim in 2011 – 50 years after the start of their own business in 1961.

“My family and I have deliberated at length on the sale of our businesses, but we are very happy to have been acquired by Awaze,” said Tim Rees. “They impressed us with their professional and personal touch and clearly appreciated the value of the local knowledge we have developed over the past 60 years. future, and we wish them every success. “

Awaze’s latest acquisitions follow the recent purchase of three other UK and Denmark-based holiday companies – Sussex, Hampshire and South Downs specialist Amberley House, Cornwall-based Portscatho Holidays and Danish operator Bornholmtours.

Awaze was advised by Francis Clark (finance and tax) and Eversheds Sutherland (legal). Quality has been advised by FRP Corporate Finance (corporate finance) and HCR Legal (legal).
