Berkshire farm fire: Horror as devastating blaze tears UK farmhouse yards from homes | United Kingdom | New

Firefighters are at the scene of the blaze in Burghfield, a village of around 6,000 that borders Reading in West Berkshire. Andy Stockwell, group leader of the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, told “Around 5pm this evening (Monday) we were called to a fire in the Burghfield area.

“Crews are currently battling a fire at an industrial agricultural unit.

“About eight fire apparatus are present.

“We are warning local residents to stay away from the area and keep windows and doors closed.”

Smoke is visible from the M4 near junction 12 westbound.

Local reports suggest the fire is in the Green Farm Road area.

He was first spotted around 5:10 p.m.

Sarah Morland, chair of the charity Connecting Communities in Berkshire, shared a video of the smoke.

She wrote on Twitter alongside the footage: “Yet another call for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

“I heard several fire engines rushing towards this fire in Burghfield

“Thank you for all your hard work.”

Another wrote: “I hope the crop or the houses will not be damaged.”

A local resident said in response: “It looks really bad.

“My son first noticed it through the window at 5.10pm and he’s still not under control, 40 minutes later [sic].”

One commentator said “the flames were higher than the rooftops”.
