Autumn has arrived, here are some tips for closing the chalet

Pipes and other water devices must be drained to prevent freezing and / or bursting; Unplug all devices

With the official fall and the leaves starting to change, it’s time to think about closing the cottage and protecting your property for the colder months of the year.

To help you get through this transition time of year with ease, Reliance Home Comfort is pleased to offer the following tips:

· Lock and secure windows and doors and ensure a perfect seal.

· Close curtains and blinds to trap hot air inside; this will make the cottage more energy efficient.

· Turn off the power and gas or propane to your water heater before draining it. Hoses and other water devices should also be drained to prevent freezing and / or bursting.

· Empty, defrost and unplug the refrigerator.

· Unplug all appliances.

· Make sure heaters are ready to turn on in cold weather.

· Leave the thermostats on the lowest setting possible to prevent freezing.

· Protect and secure outdoor furniture to prevent loss or damage in stormy weather.

Taking the time to properly close your chalet can avoid costly expenses and unnecessary headaches down the line. So before you pack your bags and head out for another year, be sure to follow the tips above so you can enjoy peace of mind during the off-season.
