A 1940s manufacturing building located in Echo Park might be allowed for apartments, depending an application submitted to the Los Angeles Department of Planning.
The proposed project, which would rise from a property on the southwest corner of Allesandro Street and Effie Street, involves the construction of a five-storey building comprising 41 one- and two-bedroom apartments. bedrooms above ground level parking for 35 vehicles.
The requested rights include Incentives for Transit-Oriented Communities allowing a larger structure than otherwise permitted by zoning rules. In exchange, four of the apartments would be set aside as very low-income affordable housing.
GA Engineering designs the contemporary low-rise building, which would include a courtyard, backyard and rooftop terrace.
City records list the project applicant as a West Hollywood-affiliated entity A J. Development and Construction of Khairwho is also behind a similar project recently built in Silver Lakeas well as new hotels proposed for the sunset strip and San Pedro.
The project is just one block south of 1750 N. Glendale Boulevard, where a larger 70-unit apartment complex was built last year.
